A Plan

Boring

Dear my two readers (hi mom),
In the last couple of months my strength training has plateaued. I am following my program, but I am just not getting stronger. One of my favorite quotes is attributed to Albert Einstein and goes like this, “Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

I like this quote because the flip of it is also true If it aint broke, don’t fix it.

So when it comes to my training, it seems to be broken and time to fix it. I am switching my program, lifting nerd language warning, from Wendler’s 5-3-1 to the Hatch Squat program.

In my training I have often jumped around without adequate time to really sink in and see results. This has more to do with the constant desire for change, for excitement at something new. Following a pattern, following a practice that works, although effective, can be boring.

The question is would you rather be better and bored, or entertained and mediocre?

As Sosan Zinji Third Zen Patriarch said: (something like this… for this is translated from the original Chinese by Richard Clarke)

The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences. When love and hate are both absent everything becomes clear and undisguised. Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart. If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinion for or against. The struggle of what one likes and what one dislikes is the dis-ease of the mind….

    Love Mom
